Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall – all you have to do is CRUISE!
American Queen Voyages sails year-round to some of the most impressive destinations on the North American continent and we wanted to break down some of the best places to see and at the best times of the year. If you’re planning your 2023 American Queen Voyages cruise holiday, then these are some options for you to consider, between ocean, river, lake and expedition.
Winter: Spend the holidays onboard the American Queen on the mighty Mississippi. Embark on a holiday celebration through the Lower Mississippi River and return with treasured memories of the Festive season. This cruise offers a special holiday gala, bonfires on the levee, holiday decorations and performances. While sailing the iconic river, guests will see idyllic small towns filled with stately southern homes decked out for the holidays and an incredible amount of American history.
Spring: Take a river cruise from Louisville to Cincinnati: If you’re looking to head to the Kentucky Derby, the best way to enjoy the race is while onboard the American Countess. The American Queen Voyages team hosts a “Derby Talk” during the cruise, outlining everything you need to know about the Derby. You’ll want to come hungry to this cruise, as our Culinary Ambassador Regina Charboneau will be preparing a special Southern dinner for our guests in honour of the race.
Summer: Get up close and personal with Alaska’s wildlife on this expedition voyage on our acclaimed Ocean Victory. In her second season sailing through Alaska and British Columbia, our purpose-built ship provides guests with the chance to view Alaskan wildlife up close, joining shore excursions teams as they deploy on double sea kayaks and Zodiacs into the icy open water. Guests are also invited to participate in whale tracking, listening to Alaska’s whales communicate in real time with a seasoned expedition team. Over the course of the trip, cruisers will be among the privileged few to visit the authentic Alaskan village of Petersburg, be an honoured guest in a Tlingit Tribal House, take a naturalist-led tour to Frederick Sound, and explore the dramatic Stikine River.
Fall: Get lost in the gorgeous fall scenery of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula and the southern Canadian coast on the Great Lakes. One of the ports, Mackinac Island, Michigan, is a place untouched by cars and filled with beautiful fall foliage. You can bike, hike, horseback ride, or kayak around the island to see the kaleidoscope of yellow, red, and orange leaves. We also offer guests the opportunity to really immerse themselves in these destinations, with the opportunity to stay overnight in Toronto and Mackinac Island.
